What to expect when reaching out?
The first step to beginning therapy if you feel like I will be a good fit for you, your child, or your family is to reach out through a phone call or email here. Once I have received your phone call or email, I will reach out within two business days to introduce myself, answer any additional questions you may have, and learn more about your current concerns and basic goals for therapy. If we both feel that it is a good match, I will schedule your initial appointment as well.
Following the phone call, I will send you a link to register as a new client including collecting insurance information, general consents, and some assessments to help inform my treatment planning by better understanding you or your child’s life experiences.
What to expect at the first appointment?
For Young Children
For the first appointment with young children, parents are often invited back to join the initial session to support their child’s transition into a new environment. Children learn best through play and fun, your child can expect to play a game, read a story, or draw in order to begin expressing their feelings and build their comfort with me. Please share if your child has any favorite hobbies, characters, or interests as I am always happy to include those into the therapy experience.
For Pre-Teens and Teens
For the first appointment, I will encourage the pre-teen or teen to decide if they would prefer to be seen individually or with their parent present. Teens may complete additional assessments if parents completed the online forms in order to learn more about their perspective. Teens will be asked what their goals are for therapy and what is currently bothering them.
For Adults
Please plan to attend individually in order to ensure confidentiality and your ability to focus and share openly. We will discuss your goals for therapy, current concerns, and what you are looking for from therapy to ensure that we are on the same page as we get started.
